Tim's Xeriscape Renovation: A Balanced Blend of Turf, Stone, and Light

When Tim reached out to Sunrise Landscape Services, he was looking for a clean, low-maintenance, and modern landscape that would enhance the curb appeal and functionality of his front yard. Our team responded with a custom design featuring premium artificial turf, natural stone, steel edging, and professional-grade landscape lighting—all carefully integrated to create a polished, timeless look.

Behind the Scenes:

This project was completed with a total investment of $16,700 and involved three primary areas of focus: turf installation, stone work with a flowing stepping-stone path, and a custom LED lighting system. From light excavation and grading to precision layout and finishing touches, every detail was designed to ensure the space would remain both beautiful and easy to maintain for years to come.

Front Yard Artificial Turf & Stepping Stone Installation:

• Turf Layout: Two organically shaped artificial turf zones were installed, each approximately 12'x24', separated by a gently curving path.
• Base Preparation: Approximately 3 inches of compacted base material was installed to support the turf and stepping stones, ensuring a long-lasting, stable surface.
• Infinity Edge Detail: Turf was finished with an infinity edge technique, creating a seamless transition into surrounding stone areas.
• Stepping Stone Integration: A pathway of natural cream limestone steps were placed through the stone area, offering both visual flow and practical movement from the sidewalk to the home. An additional (3) stones were set near the driveway corner for added access.

Decorative Stone & Landscape Edging Installation:

• Shadow Rock & River Rock: We installed 1-inch Shadow Rock in the main front yard and along the left of the driveway, while 3-inch River Rock was used in the strip between the sidewalk and street and in small beds near the home.
• Steel Edging: Corten steel edging was installed to define turf and rock areas, including a precise division along the property line. All edges were shaped to follow natural contours, creating organic movement throughout the space.

LED Landscape Lighting Installation:

• Tree Lighting: A mature Live Oak was enhanced with 8 brass LED fixtures. Three ground-mounted up lights illuminate the trunk and lower canopy, while five canopy-mounted downlights create a natural moonlight effect across the lawn.
• Power & Timing: A 150-watt transformer with integrated timer was installed to provide stress free automatic operation of the lights.

Precision and Integration:

Every material and feature in this project was chosen to work together. From the seamless transitions between turf and stone, to the natural flow of the stepping path and ambient glow of tree lighting, the result is a front yard that feels both modern and organic. The space is now more functional, inviting, and ready to be enjoyed both day and night.
